MASSACHUSETTS DRIVER LICENSE REQUIREMENTS AT-A-GLANCE:
Minimum Age for Learner Permit 16 years
Learner Permit Holding Period 6 months
Minimum Amount of Supervised Driving 40 hours (or 30 hours if completed an approved drivers ed program) of driving practice with a qualified supervising driver (i.e.--a licensed driver at least 21 years old)
Minimum Age for Driver License 16 years, 6 months
Road Test Yes
Unsupervised Driving Rules Junior license holders may NOT drive between 12 midnight and 5am unless their parent/guardian is in the vehicle
Passenger Rules No minor-aged passengers (other than immediate family) may ride with you for the first six (6) months after receiving your junior license unless a qualified supervising driver is seated in the front passenger seat.
