Austin Driving School FAQ’s
Is Austin Driving School licensed by the Texas DMV to offer driver training courses?
Although we include Austin Driving School in our directory of driving schools for College Station Texas, we cannot make any assurances about whether or not Austin Driving School is licensed by the Texas DMV.  You should contact Austin Driving School directly and ask them if you are thinking about registering for their College Station Texas behind-the-wheel training class.
Do I have to take a driver training course? Can't my parents just give me my driver training?
There are some states that do permit parents or guardians to provide their teen-aged kids' required driver training in order to obtain a driver's license.  However many states do not allow any type of substitution for taking a professionally-taught driver training course.  We suggest you contact your state's DMV to find out what the laws are in your state regarding hands-on driving instruction.
I don't know how to drive using a stick-shift. Will Austin Driving School have an automatic-shift car available that I can use for my behind-the-wheel training?
Since you're enrolling in a College Station Texas behind-the-wheel training class, chances are good that you don't know how to drive either a manual-shift OR an automatic!  However, you should let Austin Driving School know what your preference is before signing up to take their driver class.  That way you'll know for sure they will accommodate you.
The area in which I live is mostly undeveloped--very few paved roads and mountains are all around. Will Austin Driving School be able to teach me how to drive safely on bumpy terrain as well as in a city or town?
Considering that you live in a rural area, chances are excellent that a local driving school like Austin Driving School will want you to be able to drive safely on unpaved roads and other types of bumpy terrain.  You may wish to contact Austin Driving School to find out exactly what their driver training course includes before enrolling in their training course.
Now that I'm 14, will Texas allow me to get a learner's permit to drive?
Not likely.  Most states require residents to be at least 15 or 15 1/2 years old before applying for a learner's permit.  We recommend that your contact the Texas DMV office or a Texas-approved driver training institute such as Austin Driving School to learn more about the minimum driving age requirement in Texas.
Do I have to complete a College Station Texas drivers education classroom course or online course before registering for one of Austin Driving School's behind-the-wheel training courses?
Each state has its own rules, but most states will require first-time drivers to take both a driver training course plus either a drivers education classroom course (which are about 30 hours in length) or an approved online drivers education course.  You may want to ask Austin Driving School if they offer one or both programs.
I have to take a behind-the-wheel training course in College Station Texas. Can I meet this requirement by registering with Austin Driving School?
Yes, Austin Driving School offers behind-the-wheel training courses in College Station Texas.  You will need to contact Austin Driving School directly to get more information on the types of courses they offer and when to register for a class.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a Texas driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to complete both a driver training course in addition to a safe driving classroom or online course.  You may wish to contact the Texas DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to satisfy in order to obtain your first driver's license.
What are the laws in Texas concerning driver training courses? Do I have to take one to get my driver's license?
Yes, you do.  Texas law states that new drivers enroll in an approved driver training course as a prerequisite to obtaining their first driver's license.
Can I enroll in a Texas-certified behind-the-wheel training course even if I don't have my Texas instruction permit yet?
Most likely, no.  Most states have laws that require a pre-licensed driver to have obtained a Texas instruction permit before registering in a Texas behind-the-wheel training course.  It would be best for you to contact a driving school such as Austin Driving School and ask for more information.
