Westminster Driving School FAQ’s
Is Westminster Driving School a certified driving school in Vermont?
Just because a driving school appears on our directory of driver training institutions, we cannot guarantee that they are fully licensed to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in Vermont.  We highly recommend that you contact Westminster Driving School directly or the Vermont DMV to find out for sure if Westminster Driving School offers hands-on driving courses that have been approved by the State of Vermont.
Could I just have my mother or father teach me how to drive instead of paying money to attend a professional driver training course?
It depends on which state you live in.  There are some states which allow you to complete your hands-on driver training with a parent or guardian instead of enrolling in a professional driving school.  However many states require that first-time drivers take a professionally-taught driver training course.  We recommend that you ask your state's DMV office to find out if your parent or guardian can fill the role as your behind-the-wheel driving instructor.
I have no clue how to drive a stick-shift vehicle. What happens if Westminster Driving School makes me train on a manual-shift vehicle?
Considering the fact you are a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating ANY type of vehicle....stick OR automatic!  If you prefer to do your behind-the-wheel training with an automatic-shift vehicle, you may want to call Westminster Driving School and let them know before you enroll in their driver training course.  That way you'll know for certain whether Westminster Driving School can accommodate you before you pay them any money.
The area in which I live is mostly undeveloped--very few paved roads and mountains are all around. Will Westminster Driving School be able to teach me how to drive safely on bumpy terrain as well as in a city or town?
Considering that you live in a remote area, chances are excellent that a local driving school like Westminster Driving School will want you to be able to drive safely on unpaved roads and other types of rugged terrain.  You may wish to contact Westminster Driving School to find out exactly what their behind-the-wheel training course includes before signing up to take their training course.
After I turn 14, will I be eligible to obtain my instruction permit so I can begin to learn how to drive?
It depends on which state you live in, however most states unfortunately require you to be at least 15 (or sometimes 15 1/2) before you can be issued a instruction permit.  We suggest that you contact a local driver training school such as Westminster Driving School or the Vermont DMV office to learn more about the minimum age requirement for driving in Vermont.
Can I take Westminster Driving School's behind-the-wheel training course before taking a Putney Vermont drivers education classroom course or online course?
It depends on what Vermont's laws prescribe.  However, you should know that most states will require teen-aged, first-time drivers to complete both a defensive driving classroom course (which are approximately 30 hours in length, depending on Vermont's laws) or an approved online course, plus a state-approved behind-the-wheel training course.  We recommend that you contact Westminster Driving School directly to see if they offer either (or both) of these courses.
I'm required to take a behind-the-wheel training course in Putney Vermont. Do you know if Westminster Driving School offers driver training classes in Putney Vermont?
Yes, Westminster Driving School does offer driver training courses in Putney Vermont.  For more information about their class schedule and how/when to sign up for one of their defensive driving courses, please contact Westminster Driving School directly.
What are the prerequisites in Putney Vermont for getting a drivers license?
It depends on your state's laws, however in many states, teen-agers must complete both a drivers education classroom course and a behind-the-wheel training course.  Westminster Driving School may offer an approved driver training course which you could take.  Please contact Westminster Driving School for information regarding their available classes and how to go about signing up for them.
I live in Putney Vermont and would like to apply for my first driver's license. Do I need to take a behind-the-wheel training course before I can be licensed?
Vermont law mandates that all new drivers successfully complete an approved behind-the-wheel training program before receiving their Vermont driver's license.  Westminster Driving School may offer a behind-the-wheel training course that you are looking for.  Please contact Westminster Driving School directly for complete information as to what types of driver training courses they offer.
Do I need to have my instruction permit before I sign up to take a behind-the-wheel training course like the one that Westminster Driving School offers?
You will need to contact Westminster Driving School or the Vermont DMV to find out if you are allowed to sign up with a driving school like Westminster Driving School before obtaining your Vermont learner's permit.
