Alert Driving Inc. FAQ’s
How do I know if Alert Driving Inc. is licensed by California's DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses?
While we do include Alert Driving Inc.'s contact information in our driving school directory, we cannot say with certainty as to whether Alert Driving Inc. is certified by the State of California.  We recommend that you either contact Alert Driving Inc. directly or possibly the California DMV to find out if Alert Driving Inc. is a licensed driver training school.
Could I just have my mother or father give me my behind-the-wheel training instead of paying money to take a professional behind-the-wheel training course?
It depends on which state you live in.  There are some states which permit you to do your hands-on driver training with a parent or guardian instead of attending a professional driving school.  However many states require that first-time drivers take a professionally-taught behind-the-wheel training course.  We recommend that you check with your state's DMV office to find out if your parent or guardian can fill the role as your behind-the-wheel driving instructor.
What happens if I don't know how to operate a stick-shift vehicle? Will Alert Driving Inc. allow me to do my behind-the-wheel training with an automatic-shift automobile?
Considering you're a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about driving any type of automobile--manual-shift or automatic-shift!  However, if you prefer to complete your driver training using an automatic-shift vehicle, you should contact Alert Driving Inc. and inform them before you enroll in their driver training course.  That way you will know for certain if they will accommodate you.
What happens to those of us who live in a rural area? Will Alert Driving Inc. include instruction on how to drive on dirt roads, mountain roads, and other rugged?
If you live in a rural location, there is a high probability that a local driver training school like Alert Driving Inc. will either want--or even be required--to tailor their instruction towards driving safely in your particular area.
I'm turning 14 in a few days. Can I get a learner's permit to drive in California after my 14th birthday?
Most likely, no.  Most states (though not all) have laws which require that you be at least 15 or 15 1/2 before to be eligible to apply for an instruction permit.  Nevertheless, you may wish to contact the California DMV office or a California-certified driving school such as Alert Driving Inc. to find out for certain what the minimum driving age is in your local area.
Do you know if the laws in California require new teen-aged drivers to take a driver training course in addition to a drivers education classroom or online course?
The laws vary from state to state, but many states do require you to successfully complete a driver training course with "hands-on" practice in addition to a drivers education classroom or online course.
California's DMV has told me that I need to take a behind-the-wheel training course. Do you know if Alert Driving Inc. offers this course or not?
Alert Driving Inc. does offer the driver training course that California requires all new teen-aged drivers to take.  For more information about the courses Alert Driving Inc. offers, we recommend that you contact Alert Driving Inc. directly.
How do I get a drivers license in San Jose California?
In most states, pre-licensed teens are required to complete both a classroom safe driving course and a driver training course.  Alert Driving Inc. may be able to help you fulfill the behind-the-wheel training portion in California.
What does the law in California say about driver training courses? Do I have to take one to get my driver's license?
Yes, you do.  California law states that new drivers enroll in an approved behind-the-wheel training course as a prerequisite to getting their first driver's license.
Is it possible to register for a California-approved behind-the-wheel training course before I obtain my California learners permit?
It depends on what the specific laws are in California, however most states require first-time drivers to receive a learners permit before signing up for a behind-the-wheel training course.  We recommend you contact a driving school such as Alert Driving Inc. to obtain more information.
