John's Driving School FAQ’s
Are all the driving schools listed on your website fully-accredited by the California DMV to offer driver training courses in California?
The driving school directory on our website is for your convenience only, and we cannot absolutely guarantee that every driving school listed is currently certified to offer behind-the-wheel training courses in California. We suggest you contact the California DMV to make sure a particular driver training school is certified before you sign up to take their driver training course.
Do I have to take a behind-the-wheel training course? Can't my parents just give me my driver training?
There are some states that do permit parents or guardians to provide their teen-aged kids' required behind-the-wheel training in order to obtain a driver's license.  However many states do not allow any type of substitution for attending a professionally-taught behind-the-wheel training course. We suggest you contact your state's DMV to find out what the laws are in your state regarding behind-the-wheel training.
I have no clue how to drive a stick-shift vehicle. What happens if John's Driving School makes me train on a manual-shift vehicle?
Considering the fact you are a brand new driver, you probably don't know much about operating ANY type of vehicle....stick OR automatic! If you prefer to do your behind-the-wheel training with an automatic-shift vehicle, you may want to call John's Driving School and let them know before you sign up to take their behind-the-wheel training course. That way you'll know for certain whether John's Driving School will be able to accommodate you before you pay them any money.
What happens to those of us who live in a rural area? Will John's Driving School include instruction on how to drive on dirt roads, mountain roads, and other rugged?
If you live in a remote location, there is a high probability that a local driving school like John's Driving School will either want--or even be required--to tailor their instruction towards driving safely in your particular locale.
After I turn 14, will I be eligible to obtain my learner's permit so I can begin to learn how to drive?
It depends on which state you live in, however most states unfortunately require you to be at least 15 (or sometimes 15 1/2) before you can be issued a instruction permit. We suggest that you contact a local driver training school such as John's Driving School or the California DMV office to learn more about the minimum age requirement for driving in California.
Will I be required to enroll in both a drivers education classroom or online course and a behind-the-wheel training course in Santa Rosa California?
It depends on which state you live in, but many states now mandate new teen-aged drivers to sign up for both a drivers education course as well as a driver training course.
California law says that I must successfully complete a hands-on driver training course in order to get licensed to drive in Santa Rosa California. Is this something that John's Driving School can help me with?
Yes, John's Driving School offers the California-approved hands-on driver training course. For more information about their classes and instruction schedule, please contact John's Driving School directly.
Exactly what type of driver training do I need in Santa Rosa California before I can get my California driver's license?
The prerequisites for getting a driver's licenses vary from state to state, however most states now require teen-agers who are looking to get their first driver's license to enroll in a safe driving classroom course as well as a driver training course. We suggest that you contact a local driver training company such as John's Driving School and ask if they offer a California-approved driver training course which would fulfill California's driver's education requirements.
What are the laws in California concerning driver training courses? Do I have to take one to get my driver's license?
Yes, you do. California law states that new drivers enroll in an approved behind-the-wheel training course as a prerequisite to getting their first driver's license.Â
Can I register for a California driver training course prior to having my California learners permit?
Most states require pre-licensed drivers to hold a learners permit before being permitted to register for a driver training course. You should contact a driving school like John's Driving School and ask for more information.
