Standard Driving School FAQ’s
Since Standard Driving School appears on your website, does this mean they are approved by the California DMV to offer behind-the-wheel training courses?
The list of driver training schools on our webpage is provided as a convenience to our customers only.  We CANNOT guarantee that every single school listed is fully-certified by the California DMV.  You may want to call Standard Driving School directly to find out if they offer a state-certified behind-the-wheel training course.
I heard that parents can fill the role of driving instructor in California, so taking a San Francisco behind-the-wheel training course like the one Standard Driving School offers is not necessary. Is that true?
You should contact the California DMV or a licensed driving school like Standard Driving School and ask them.  While parent-taught driving instruction is permitted in some states, many states do NOT allow it.
Do you know if Standard Driving School will let me complete my behind-the-wheel training using an automatic-shift vehicle? I don't know anything about using a stick-shift.
Considering you're a brand new driver, you probably don't know a whole lot about driving ANY type of vehicle, be it a manual OR an automatic!  Nevertheless, if you have a preference, you probably should contact Standard Driving School and see if they can accommodate you before registering for their driver training course.
I don't live anywhere near a city. There are dirt roads and bumpy terrain all around my house. How do I know if Standard Driving School will train me on how to drive in a remote area like where I live and not just teach me how to drive in a town-or city-type environment?
Since Standard Driving School is a local driver training company in your area, it's a safe bet that Standard Driving School will be motivated (or perhaps required) to teach its local customers how to drive on rough terrain.  If you want to make certain, however, you may want to call Standard Driving School to find out exactly what's included in their behind-the-wheel training course before you sign up with them.
If I'm 14, can I get a driver's permit to drive in California?
Possibly.  However, you should be aware that most states require you to be at least 15½ years old before you can get an instruction permit.  We recommend that you contact the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving school such as Standard Driving School to find out exactly what the minimum age requirement is in California.
Will I be required to complete both a drivers education classroom or online course and a behind-the-wheel training course in San Francisco California?
It depends on which state you live in, but many states now require new teen-aged drivers to successfully complete both a drivers education course as well as a driver training course.
Does Standard Driving School provide a hands-on driver training course like the one that is required by the State of California? I need to register for one in order to obtain my driver license.
Standard Driving School offers driver training courses which are approved by the California DMV.  You may want to contact Standard Driving School directly for more information about their courses and how to go about registering for one.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a California driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to register for both a driver training course in addition to a drivers education classroom or online course.  You may wish to contact the California DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to meet in order to obtain your first driver's license.
Is hands-on driver training required in California in order to be licensed to drive a car?
Absolutely.  All new drivers in California must register for an approved behind-the-wheel training course before they can get a license to independently operate a motor vehicle.
Is it all right if I sign up with a driver training school like Standard Driving School prior to my receiving my instruction permit?
In most states, you are required to have already gotten your instruction permit before you sign up to take your driver training course like the one offered by Standard Driving School.  We suggest you contact either Standard Driving School to find out more information.
