Signals Driving School FAQ’s
Can you tell me if Signals Driving School is a licensed driver training school in Indiana?
Although Signals Driving School is listed on our list of driving schools in your area, we are unable to say with certainty as to whether they are currently approved to teach hands-on driving courses in Indiana. We recommend either calling Signals Driving School directly or the Indiana DMV to find out whether or not Signals Driving School offers behind-the-wheel training courses that are state-approved.
Will the Indiana DMV allow my parents to supervise my driving practice instead of requiring me to take a behind-the-wheel training course at a state-approved driving school?
Possibly. Some states will allow your parents to supervise your driving practice as a substitute to taking a driver training course with a professional driving instructor. You will need to contact the Indiana DMV to find out if your behind-the-wheel driving may be done by your parents in Indiana.
Do I need to tell Signals Driving School that I need to train with an automatic-shift car? I don't know how to drive a manual-shift vehicle.
Most new drivers don't know how to operate either a manual-shift OR and automatic-shift vehicle! We recommend that you ask Signals Driving School if you can complete your driver training using an automatic-shift car before you register for their driver training course.
Since I live way out in the country where driving on dirt roads and bumpy terrain is the norm, will Signals Driving School be able to teach me how to drive in a non-urban environment? Or do they only prepare you for city-driving?
Since you live in a remote location, odds are that any local driving school in your area such as Signals Driving School will want you to be able to drive safely on unpaved roads and bumpy terrain.  We recommend that you contact Signals Driving School directly to find out exactly what they offer.
If I'm 14, can I get an instruction permit to drive in Indiana?
Possibly. However, you should be aware that most states require you to be at least 15½ years old before you can get an instruction permit. We recommend that you contact the Indiana Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or a licensed driving school such as Signals Driving School to find out exactly what the minimum age requirement is in Indiana.
I live in Bloomington Indiana. Does the law say I have to take both a driver ed classroom or online course and a driver training course in order to be fully-licensed here?
Each state has its own laws in regards to licensing procedures. However, most states do mandate that new, teen-aged drivers successfully complete both a behind-the-wheel training course plus either a drivers education online course or drivers education classroom course .
Indiana's DMV has told me that I need to take a driver training course. Do you know if Signals Driving School offers this course or not?
Signals Driving School does offer the behind-the-wheel training course that Indiana requires all new teen-aged drivers to take. For more information about the courses Signals Driving School offers, we recommend that you contact Signals Driving School directly.
Do I have to take drivers education to get a Indiana driver's license?
Drivers education requirements vary depending on which state you live in, but you should be aware that most states require new, teen-aged drivers to enroll in both a driver training course in addition to a drivers education classroom or online course. You may wish to contact the Indiana DMV to find out exactly what requirements you will need to satisfy in order to obtain your first driver's license.
Is it necessary for me to take a behind-the-wheel training course in order to get my first Indiana driver's license?
Yes, it is. All teen-aged drivers applying for their first driver's license in Indiana must complete a state-approved driver training course.
Will Indiana allow me to register for a driver training course before I actually get my learner's permit?
You will need to contact your state's DMV office to find out. However, most states require that you obtain your instruction permit before you sign up with a behind-the-wheel training course.
